Create a story with your portraits.

We want to showcase you.

  1. Clothing

Stay away from lots of patterns and business. We want your face to shine.

    Stay in the same hues.

All darks, all mediums, or all lights. Your eye will always to go white. We want eyes on you.

    Match your environment.

Out in the woods or farm: Creams, browns, mustard, greens, and/or rose colors will bring harmony to the environment and your portraits. Muted colors.

On the beach or near the water: grays, creams, blues, mustards, reds, greens, and/or black all are good colors.

Urban: bright colors, simple or wild clothing, trendy, and/or dark color schemes. Let us know your ideas and we will find the perfect spot in the city to match your style.

Mountain portraits: Muted colors like the woods/farm, or if we go to the water, follow those tips.

    Purchase what you need.

Sometimes we have the clothing we need in our closet, but sometimes it just doesn’t cut it. You are investing in these portraits and we don’t want your clothing to look old or beat up. Go ahead and invest in a beautiful outfit for the whole family to look good.

    Iron, lint brush, and mend.

Yep. That’s something that needs to be said.

Type of clothing that go well and ones that don’t.

Long flowing dress. YES! It’s dramatic, beautiful, and creates a story. It’s easier to move around in and interact without worrying things that shouldn’t be seen aren’t seen.

Short dress. NOT USUALLY. It makes the session a bit harder to photograph. A shorter dress limits the angles, poses, and interactions with the others in the photos.

Dressy casual. YES! Men often stiffen up as soon as they put a suit or a tux on. It helps the portraits look more natural if everyone is relaxed and feels good in their clothing.

Suits/Tuxes. FORMALS YES! Weddings, striking photoshoots, proms, etc are perfect. Please put it on a day before and get used to being in the suit or tux. You will be more relaxed when we are photographing you.

Heels. YES! If we are in nature at all, bring other shoes to wear to the designated spot.

Hats. We like them. But know it is harder to have perfect lighting with a hat so you won’t be as free to interact and do as you would without them. But I do love a good hat photo.

Trendy. YES! and No. If you don’t want to look back at our portraits and wonder what the heck you were thinking wearing those outfits (we all know the 80’s family photo fail pictures). The flip side is, yes! Go nuts and show your style. It just depends on what your desire is.

    2. Make it an adventure and an experience.

Gone are the days of standing and looking stiff for a portrait. We want everyone involved to have a good time. This shows in your portraits. Bring bribery treats for the kids. Relax, it will all work out and have fun. Bring props that show your interests.

Family Sessions: Bring books, toys, games etc of what your kids love.

Life Sessions: Have your top favorite family moments and props ready.

Senior Sessions: Show us who you are by bringing something of your interests into your session.

Weddings: Bring special mementos from family members, glasses of champagne, love letters, hankies, and/or something of your special story of how you met or got engaged.

    3. Show up on time.

No need to stress by driving fast because one is late. Plan ahead and relax. You have a certain amount of time in your session and we want to be able to use every minute we have to create a beautiful portrait session for you.

    4. Dogs.

We love animals! Let us know if you are bringing your animal. Please know that as amazing as your animal may be, we will need to take more time in your photo session to make sure the furry friend is looking right, sitting, laying, etc well for the portraits.

    5. Be you.

Interact as you would in normal life. The difference is that you are dressed up a bit more and there is a photographer there. Play, skip, kiss, jump, dance, swing one another, giggle, tickle those little baby toes, and do as you would in your own living room. We want to capture you. Relaxed, fun, intentional, in the moment, and connection with one another.
